Inspiration for Writing the Hunger Games
Suzanne's father was an air force pilot, therefore she heard a lot of talk about wars and her father's military experience. One night while she was watching TV, she was astonished by the lack of distinction between Reality TV and coverage of the Iraq War. As she put it, "We have so much programming coming at us all the time. Is it too much? Are we becoming desensitized to the experience?" She believes that The Hunger Games touches on the subjects, necessary and unnecessary wars, that her dad discussed with her as a child.
